MEDRC’s unique grand challenges of peace and water in the region and the world can be enhanced through strategic alliances. A number of organizations have technical overlap in desalination and water reuse research, but different missions. This allows the creation of very useful alliances for MEDRC’s members. Major benefits to MEDRC members include a source of basic research, strong degree granting programs, the opportunity to transfer new technology to the members, the opportunity to build join research projects and co-organize events and trainings. Our aim is to sign at least one additional MoU per annum over the lifetime of this strategic plan.
In the last 6 months, many exchanges took place with representatives from different key organizations to discuss possible collaborations.
One MoU has just been signed with the University of Barcelona and its AECHE (Arab-Euro Conference on High Education) in order to collaborate on common topics of interest through research and capacity building activities as well as possible joint proposals for EU and regional/local projects. One of the proposals on smart cities has been submitted to ERASMUS+ call for projects early this year together with other partners such as Gutech (Oman), Middle East College (Oman), TU Berlin, University of Liverpool.
Another MoU signed in May 2016, is with WEE Pros GmbH (http://weepros.de ), based in Bonn (Germany). WEE Pros provides integrated services & consultation in water, energy and environment (WEE) sectors aiming at developing sustainable management systems.
MEDRC has been accepted by IUCN-ROWA (Jordan) who coordinate the Regional Knowledge Network (R-KNOW) to join R-KNOW: www.rknow.net to share knowledge on systemic approaches of sustainable water resources management. MEDRC has been invited to join RKNOW final workshop organized in Amman (Jordan) on 17-18th May, 2016, but we could not attend it because of other commitments.
Several entities contacted MEDRC Research Department for possible consultancy services for EU projects in the MENA region.
