A word from Ambassador Ronald Mollinger, Center Director of MEDRC:
MEDRC is the only international organization whose members Israel, the Palestinian National Authority, Jordan, Oman, Qatar, USA, Netherlands, Japan and Korea actively cooperate to meet the growing fresh and clean water needs of the core parties of the Middle East Peace Process and all others in the Middle East and North African region, which is considered the most arid area in the world. We do this through an active research and capacity building program. MEDRC has recently redirected its strategy as the Middle East Peace Process is rapidly developing and since 2007 MEDRC is concentrating much more than before on the needs of and the benefits for the core parties and on the political relevance of projects and technical solutions for clean water needs in the framework of the Middle East Peace Process. To this end, MEDRC and the Palestinian Water Authority have founded together the Palestinian National Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Desalination and Reuse of Waste Water, which aims at increasing the availability of potable water in Gaza and the West Bank. A similar CoE is later planned for Jordan as well. Recently a new Management Team of MEDRC has been appointed, which consists of Deputy Center Director Shannon McCarthy, who joined MEDRC from the very beginning and myself. Our ambition is to show that amidst contentious politics, MEDRC stays the stable table around which, even those from competing political backgrounds, can gather and cooperate. It is a forum where stakeholders, do engage directly MEDRC is the proof that production of clean water can be a reason for peace and cooperation.
